How We Choose Hotels
Tokyo Finest Hotels evaluates hotels based on how well they serve a particular type of traveler, location or stay — not simply on star ratings or brand prestige.
Our Selection Process
We define the travel need
Every guide starts with a practical question: best hotel for a first visit, best family stay, best ryokan experience, best location near Tokyo Station, or another specific travel need.
We research the strongest candidates
We compare relevant properties using official hotel information, location, room types, facilities, transport access and other decision-making factors.
We compare strengths and trade-offs
A hotel is not automatically the best choice for every traveler. We look at what makes each property particularly strong and where another option may be more suitable.
We verify important facts
Where possible, factual details such as room counts, pools, spas, room configurations, restaurants, location and hotel facilities are checked against official hotel sources.
We update when information changes
Hotels renovate, restaurants change and policies evolve. We aim to update guides when material information changes or new information becomes available.
What We Consider
- Location: neighborhood, transport and proximity to key areas.
- Rooms: layout, views, capacity and notable room categories.
- Facilities: pools, spas, restaurants and other meaningful amenities.
- Traveler fit: families, couples, first-time visitors, luxury travelers and other profiles.
- Experience: what makes the property meaningfully different from alternatives.
- Trade-offs: reasons another hotel or area may suit some travelers better.
- Booking practicality: location, transport and availability through major booking channels.
Our Editorial Standards
Recommendations should be useful before they are promotional.
We therefore aim to distinguish factual information from editorial judgment and avoid presenting subjective opinions as objective facts.
We do not claim to have personally stayed at a hotel unless that is genuinely the case. Research-based guides are presented as research-based guides.
We also avoid describing illustrative or generated imagery as authentic hotel photography.
Official Sources
For hotel-specific facts, official hotel or hotel-group sources are preferred whenever practical.
Other sources may be used to understand booking availability, traveler needs, neighborhood context or market positioning.
Affiliate Relationships
Tokyo Finest Hotels may earn commissions from hotel bookings made through affiliate links.
Affiliate availability does not automatically make a hotel eligible for recommendation, and a commercial relationship does not guarantee a positive assessment.
